To start making wire jewelry, you just need a couple of pliers and wires. There are different types of pliers - round nose, flat nose, chain nose, etc. Get a round nose and a flat nose one initially. You also need a wire cutter. You can start practising with copper wires you get in hardware store, else you can buy guage wire in craft shops. There are different gauges (thickness) for different designs. Higher the gauge thinner the wire, ideal is 20G wire. For more details on wires: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewelry_wire_gauge
There are a few basic techniques you have to learn by practising on your own. Once you have the confidence of these, you can start creating any design on your own.
